"Stirrings Still" fue el último mensaje en prosa de Samuel Beckett; se completó en 1987 y se publicó por primera vez al año siguiente. Más que un relato, es un monólogo pronunciado por un narrador situado en el umbral entre la vida y el más allá —un más allá que podría ser un vasto trigal visto en blanco y negro, o bien un torbellino de recuerdos vacilantes—. Beckett amaba la música, en particular las canciones y los cuartetos de cuerda de Franz Schubert. Su escritura posee una cualidad musical, patente en el fraseo meticuloso, el uso de la repetición y, a menudo, en la propia estructura del texto. "Stirrings Still" es un ejemplo de ello: una composición de tramas entrelazadas y desarrollos.

La música, creada para esta grabación por el compositor Trevor Bača, no actúa como mero acompañamiento, sino como un flujo paralelo que se escucha alternándose con las palabras, reflejando y contemplando el mensaje de estas. Concebida para la maestría interpretativa del JACK Quartet, constituye un cauce que atrae al oyente periódicamente; no para alejarlo de las palabras, sino para adentrarlo más profundamente en ellas a través de otro medio expresivo.

"Stirrings Still" se grabó entre 2023 y 2024 en el Auditorio Stelio Molo RSI de Lugano, bajo la producción de Manfred Eicher, quien desde hace tiempo se siente fascinado por la musicalidad intrínseca de la obra de Samuel Beckett.
